Why? When the Question Really is the Answer

As I sit here typing away at the keyboard, I have this question pounding away at me.
Why am I doing this? What’s the endgame here?

Before I go on, I may need to explain what this is. I am embarking on a journey to document my experiences and that of others in their 20s trying to figure out the best way to live their lives. I don’t know what I’ll discover, or if I’ll discover anything, but I do know that I will share a story that I don’t see told too often. Therein lies the ‘why’, or at least for me part of the ‘why’.

My own 20s have been as roaring as the ‘Roaring 20s’, with bouts of mental health issues, mistakes, and missed opportunities. And that’s just the small vacation that is going to college. Couple this with the challenges of the real world that includes joining the workforce and searching for one’s purpose in life; and you have a cocktail for a LOT of anxiety, insecurity, and downright isolation.

Now, I know my life may not resemble every single person’s out there, but I’d be hard-pressed to think that there are no similarities between myself and you, my peer. Hence why I am on a mission to gather accounts from fellow millennials, whether that be about joining the workforce, being productive members of their community, or even navigating relationships.

I will state this right now, I am just a regular guy, and by no means an expert on life, Millenials, or even how to microwave popcorn properly (I still burn it sometimes). Still, I can say that I will do my best to produce something that is genuine, sincere, and impactful for you. And I hope you choose to read and/or listen. All of this leads to my other point, ‘what is the endgame?’

In my ideal world, I want people who have or are struggling right now in their 20s to achieve something better. The important takeaway, however, is that better can mean something different for you than it means for someone else. Most people, as often I have myself, tend to get caught up in the chase for Success rather than first stepping back and taking a look at what success means for them. A good piece of reading that touches on this is Mark Manson’s The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck. I could go into more of the reading here, but I think you should read it on your own and produce your own takeaways.

This also seems like a good place to stop. I hope that you are interested in taking this journey with me. I don’t know where this journey will take us, but I hope we’ll come out on the other side better.
